New Open Mic Night 'Fen Speak' starts in October with Venues in Ely and Wisbech

In association with the Fenland Poet Laureate Programme and Atelier East, and with support from ADeC, Elaine Ewart and Leanne Moden are starting up a brand new open mic poetry evening in North and East Cambridgeshire.

Fen Speak is a free spoken word open mic night designed to support and nurture local poets and writers, and help them develop their performance skills. It's a friendly and supportive space for people to read their poetry out loud, and Elaine and Leanne will be encouraging writers of all ages and abilities to have a go at performing their poetry!

Fen Speak events will be held every third Wednesday of the month, alternating between venues in Ely and Wisbech, and the first open mic night will be on Wednesday 16th October at the Babylon Gallery, Waterside, Ely CB7 4AU -meeting at 7:30pm for an 8pm start. There will be refreshments available, and there's absolutely not obligation to performance, so if anyone wants to come along to listen, that's absolutely fine. Elaine and Leanne hope to see you there!

A Pint of Po-ho-ho-ho-etry and a Dasher of Drama

Come and join us for a festive edition of Pint of Poetry at Charters Bar, Peterborough on the 12th December at 8:30pm.

It'll be choc full of seasonal mirth with a healthy smattering of bah humbug ... and Mark (Grist) assures us that this year he will be wearing full Christmas fancy dress ...

If you would like to perform (seasonal theme is not mandatory) then come along on the 12th and find us (Mark and Summer), we'll be there from 8pm putting together the set list ... we love our performers so we'll be really happy to see you!

We also love our audience, so if you enjoy being entertained you should come and be part of our lovely audience, you'll also get a chance to take part in our Christmas competition to win an incredible Christmas prize ...

June Pint of Poetry at Charters Bar, Peterborough

Just a quick reminder that Pint of Poetry and a Dash of Drama is, as ever, on at Charters Bar on the 2nd Wednesday of this month. What does this mean? ... well it means that on the 13th June at 8:30 at Charters Bar Pint of Poetry shall be gathering with microphones, performances, a few drinks, general mirth and the loveliest atmosphere that any performer or audience did ever experience.

Last month was an absolute corker of a night, with a record number of performances and new performers so Mark and Summer are very excited to see what you all have in store for them next week!

This month is slightly special as Refugee week will be happening soon. Some folk from the Red Cross will be joining them next week, so the suggestion is a bit of a theme if anyone would like to help mark the occassion - so if this cause means something to you, why not express it through the medium of poetry and share it with everyone next week?

Aside from the theme of Refugee week, all other poetry and drama acts are welcome ...you know ... the usual - serious, funny an downright ludicrous ...

Open mic nights for writers

Darlington Arts Centre: Monday 25th June, 7pm

Darlington for Culture’s open mic nights for authors and audiences continue on the last Monday of each month at Darlington Arts Centre. Authors can take to the floor and read their material, anything from prose and poetry to screenwriting and theatre. 

Admission: £3 on the door.
